Tell Deputy Premier Barilaro- It's time to Extinguish the Zombie Coal Seam Gas Licences

The approval of the Narrabri coal seam gas project could open the floodgates for Santos’ plans for coal seam gasfields across Northwest NSW.

Surrounding the Pilliga are eleven other expired gas exploration licences. They cover over 56,000 square kilometres of land. Coal seam gas companies are itching to start CSG activity on these expired gas licences. We need our elected representatives in Government to stop them. They need to hear from us right now.

National Party members voted to have these CSG licences extinguished last year, yet the NSW Government failed to act.

Your voice is needed to stop coal seam gasfields blanketing Northwest NSW.

Will you call the Deputy Premier and ask for the licences to be extinguished?

left a message reminding him of the canvassing of the residents of the far north coast of nsw a few years ago and how we rejected csg in favour of looking after our agriculture and our water supplies over gas which can be provided from elsewhere in the country.

It went to message bank. They are too afraid to answer their own phones or they are inundated with calls.

I was directed to leave a message which was as follows. I worked at the highest level of the energy sector in the 80s and 90s, to learn that fossil’s days were numbered. The final word on fossil is the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as part of the US Dept of Commerce, to keep the most watchful eye on the state of the air and oceans. It’s word is there is no room for fossil expansion. As a warning binds all; its heeded. South Eastern Australia has ceased to be subtropical. I follow the temperatures in Australia year round. Those above outstrip the average min and max, the belows, and the aboves are far more above than those belows are below. Until 20 years ago, our beautiful suburban creek ran year round. Except for the too common deluges of warmer air holding more moisture, it is dry.

Well I think, I was polite but pleading about the need for extinguishment of the PELs and the risks posed by the whole industry which doesn’t have a social licence to operate.

Yes, Leave a message reply only. I left a message saying we want the CSG licenses revoked, we don’t want NSW turned into one giant gasfield. Renewable energy is the way togo.

Got through this time to a staffer – who listened in absolute silence while I urged Mr Barilaro to do as his party members had aked and extinguish the expired PELS; I said that I knew that fellow Nationals, Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall had said that Santos having got what they asked for they should be satisfied and that Kevin Anderson Member for Tamworth had expressed similar sentiments- and this isn’t good enough- he has the power to extinguish them and that is what the people of NSW want. I spoke of the mental health impacts on people I knew living with the ghastly threat of these PELs coming back to life. She said ‘I will pass on the message’- but I’m not convinced she knew what I was talking about.

I got through to one of his staff. She was very polite and asked me if “this was my best contact number“. I expressed my concern re CSG in the area and how is he-Barilaro representing the Nationals fairly. I felt I was listened to, but am not holding my breath for a return phone call.!
